Ello!
I just thought this would be an interesting topic to open up to discussion!

Light novels are basically books written in Asian countries that typically have some pictures printed on the inside. Some of my FAVORITE series have been adapted from light novels like....

Scrapped Princes (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!)
1/2 Prince (ANOTHER FAVORITE!)
Library Wars (Oh my gosh, the book is SOOOO much better than the manga, and even the anime! I LOVE IT!)

You can buy some of the Scrapped Princess light novels through Tokyo Pop, although I don't believe they ever got past the 3rd or 5th volume. Library Wars and 1/2 Prince are both being translated by fans. (The Odd Squad, the manga translators of 1/2 Prince manga are doing the light novel as well.) Library Wars translated (or... more like translation in process) can be found on Live Journal.

I think it's a REAL shame that more light novels aren't brought over to the USA. Honestly the Scrapped Princess Light Novels are amazing. I'm so sad they didn't even release them all!

Do you guys know of any light novels?

Yeah see that's the thing. Light Novels would be A LOT more difficult to translate than regular old manga.

And really those are the only three I've heard of... although now that I think about it I think there might be one for that.... what was it... Final Fantasy Unlimited? It's one of Myrrh's favorite shows and it actually got canceled halfway through the so the ending is very slapdash. It had those two annoying twins, the guy who had a gun that ran on colors, and some other... weird things.

Anyway I'm pretty sure it was originally a light novel too.

Well if the category of "novel" (even if it's light) is any indication... Yes, they'd take waaay more work to translate Tongue

Are those like those mini novels or something? I dunno! They have like novel versions of anime/manga-related stuff! Like I know one of the Hack series has those novel-ish things... And they actually translate some of them! At least, I thought they did... I might be totally wrong and remembering something else though.

I've never read any light novels, but as far as I know The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Vampire Hunter D were originally light novels.

Oh wow!!! I didn't know that.  Shocked

Apparently these light novel things are a lot more popular than I thought! (In Japan I mean.)
